تضم "حاشية الصفتي على الجواهر الزكية في حل ألفاظ العشماوية" جهود ثلاثة من علماء المالكية، أولهم هو الشيخ عبد الباري العشماوي، الذي كتب مختصرًا وجيزًا ضمّنه زبدة الفقه المالكي، مقتصرا فيه على أهم المسائل المشتهرة في أبواب الطهارة والصلاة والصوم.
وقد اشتهر هذا المختصر باسم "متن العشماوية"، وتلقته علماء المالكية بالقبول، فكتب حوله عدد كبير من الشروح كان من أبرزها شرح الشيخ أحمد بن تركي، المسمى بالجواهر الزكية في حل ألفاظ العشماوية، والذي لم يقتصر فيه على مجرد شرح متن العشماوية، بل أضاف إليه مسائل أبواب العبادات الأخرى، ليصبح كتابه شاملا لجميع أبواب العبادات من طهارة وصلاة وصوم وزكاة وحج.
توجهت لذلك عناية علماء المالكية إلى هذا الشرح فكتبت حوله مجموعة من الحواشي اشتهر من بينها حاشية الشيخ الصفتي، والتي قام فيها صاحبها بالتعليق على الشرح، مدققا ومنقحا ومصححا لما جاء فيه، مقارنا بين الأقوال، ومثبتا للمعتمد منها في المذهب وفق ما تلقاه عن مشايخه من أئمة المدرسة المالكية

This layered scholarly work belongs to a long tradition of teaching manuals in the Maliki school of law, and brings together the contributions of three generations of scholars.

At its foundation lies the original text (matn):
Matn al-ʿAshmāwiyya, written by Shaykh ʿAbd al-Bārī al-ʿAshmāwī, a concise and widely accepted summary of essential Maliki rulings. It was specifically designed for beginners, covering only the most important and commonly practiced issues in the chapters of ṭahārah (purification), ṣalāh (prayer), and ṣawm (fasting). Its brevity and clarity made it a cornerstone in traditional Maliki curricula across North and West Africa.

Recognizing its pedagogical value, Shaykh Aḥmad ibn Turkī later wrote a detailed commentary titled al-Jawāhir al-Zakiyya, which expanded the scope of the work to include zakāt and ḥajj, turning it into a full manual on the acts of worship (ʿibādāt).

Building on this, Shaykh al-Ṣaftī produced his famous ḥāshiya, offering critical insights, corrections, and clarifications to earlier commentaries. His annotations reflect the adopted positions (muʿtamad) of the Maliki school and demonstrate deep familiarity with its legal tradition. He often compares different opinions, evaluates them, and highlights the most authoritative views transmitted by his teachers and major Maliki jurists.

This book is highly regarded in traditional circles, especially in regions where Maliki fiqh is dominant, such as Morocco, Mauritania, Egypt, and Sudan.
